Speckle noise may consider as inherent disadvantage involve with SAR systems because of its working principle (coherent imagery). This paper presents a wavelet based technique to filter the speckle noise in the SAR images. The proposed technique involves the wavelet transform with inter-scale dependencies and adaptive thresholding. The simulation result shows that the presented algorithm performs well.

Speckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...
متن کاملSAR Image Despeckling via Bivariate Shrinkage Based on Directionlet Transform
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by multiplicative speckle noise, which is due to the coherent nature of the scattering phenomenon. A novel and efficient SAR image despeckling algorithm based on Directionlet transform using bivariate shrinkage is proposed to remove speckle noise while preserving the structural features and textural information of the scene. First, a...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution
Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...
متن کاملSpeckle Denoising Based on Bivariate Shrinkage Functions and Dual-tree Complex Wavelet Transform
Bivariate shrinkage functions (bsf) statistically denoted as joint probability density functions (pdf) and noise pdf, can be united by MAP to denoise image. Because the intensity of speckle in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image is hypothesized to be distributed according to Rayleigh distribution, SAR image denoising modal based on bsf and dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) is constr...
متن کاملBayesian-Based Speckle Suppression for SAR Image Using Contourlet Transform
⎯A novel and efficient speckle noise reduction algorithm based on Bayesian contourlet shrinkage using contourlet transform is proposed. First, we show the sub-band decompositions of SAR images using contourlet transforms, which provides sparse representation at both spatial and directional resolutions. Then, a Bayesian contourlet shrinkage factor is applied to the decomposed data to estimate th...
